The Setbacks of Rewards Credit Cards

Using your credit card allows you to earn points, which becomes a form of reward that allows you to enjoy the benefits it has to offer. But there are some rewards which, instead of benefitting you, costs you more than you want to. That will make you think that not all rewards are rewarding.

Unusable rewards

There are types of rewards that allows you to travel in certain places. However, what if you are unable to travel even to the next state nearest you? Moreover, there are even rewards that allow you to shop at particular stores or dine in certain restaurants. But what if you do not shop or dine in that particular place? In this case, better opt for a cash back reward. At least, you can use them anytime you want.

Rewards that cost more

Since reward credit cards have several types of fees, it makes the cost of the card high. The value of the rewards is usually below the amount of the fees that you pay. If in case this happens to you, better save that money and give yourself the treat that such a reward cannot give you.

Limited rewards

There are certain rewards card that charges you more than it rewards you. There are some cards that will make you pay twice the amount that you paid but you never get the other half.

Minimum spending limits

Rewards cards require a particular amount of purchase accumulated before you can get to earn a reward. This means rewards are dependent on the purchases that you make. The less purchases you make, the less rewards you will be receiving. And sometimes, even none at all. More often than not, this encourages you to acquire a not-so-healthy spending habit just for the sake of getting rewards.

Rewards that make you owe a lot

Having to spend a lot just to earn rewards, ironically, makes you earn a lot of debts as well. One good example is purchasing groceries using your card. This gives you the habit of spending more than you need.
