Saving Money

Budgeting vs. Splurging

People nowadays area discovering that the big purchases such as cars and homes will be more and more difficult to ignore. These types of purchases are the non-negotiables in any professional's life. Although despite these big-time spendings, a recent survey argues that it's not the high-priced and costly purchases that plunge consumers into financial crisis. Instead, what gets the consumers into money trouble is the little things. Consumers in that survey admit to splurging quite often. For such a fact, most people would immediately assume that people splurge by frequenting the malls yet this is not the one to blame but the regular splurging on dining out in restaurants. This information was released by the Pew Research Center and surprised a lot of people with their findings.

Another phenomenon that has recently happened to the consumers today is that they have exorbitantly inflated the list of things that they decided to be necessary for day-to-day living. One example is a whopping 59% concede that they must simply have an air-conditioner installed in their cars. This figure has risen from the measly 41% who believed so way back in 1996. Right now 68% of all adults now find it absolutely necessary that a microwave oven should be in their house while a decade ago, only 32% responded in the same way. Finally, about half of all the respondents say that a home computer as well as a cellphone are needed to operate in everyday life. This is how the average consumer thinks nowadays and it is simply too much for a person to regularly spend his or her money on unnecessary things. The fact of the matter is there are many things that the average person can do without. There simply needs to have a reorganization of priorities.

There should be a conscious choice of saving up money instead of splurging on the little things that will eventually drain our resources dry. People have different beliefs with how they should spend their money. For some people having shelter means a one-story house with minimal furnishings while for others, they want a million-dollar mansion. The people who splurge most often are the ones who end up in debt while those who save for the lean months are the ones who often end up smiling. It must be remembered that people should take responsibility for their actions, and that includes purchases. To the spenders and the savers, their choices will only reflect how much they value saving up for their future.
