Online Banking: Advantages and Disadvantages

Online banking can be considered as a relatively new service that many banks today are offering their clients and customers. With the Internet getting even bigger, the opportunities just got more attractive even for banks to be able to reach out to more and more people online. Online banking is just one way that banks can appeal to those people who wish to take advantage of the convenience that this new technological medium offers.

Online Banking Advantages

Online banking has also recently gained some favor among many of the bank’s clients simply because of the various advantages that they provide. Prior to the service, people would need to go to the nearest branch of their bank in order to process all sorts of transactions.

But now, online banking allows people to perform some important banking transactions such as fund transfers, paying bills and checking different accounts even without leaving their homes. These services are now available through online banking. To put it simply, it offers a higher level of convenience not offered by banks previously.

Another advantage of online banking is that transactions are done more efficiently as well as more quickly. People no longer need to wait in line just for a simple transaction. Through online banking, clients are always the first in line.

Transactions are approved and done at a speed of one touch of a button. There is no need for paperwork changing hands and maybe sometimes being forgotten. Transactions done electronically eliminate this inconvenience and does it more efficiently than before.

Online Banking Disadvantages

Aside from the many advantages that online banking offers, there are also some disadvantages that may affect people. One of the biggest concerns would be the issue of trust. Some people may doubt sometimes even themselves if they have done the right thing when completing an online transaction.

Some people may worry if they have entered the right account number or pushed the right button. Some may even worry if the transaction succeeded at all, all these because there is maybe no one to ask or inquire to.

Another disadvantage involves the issue of risk. Going online can sometimes have its own risks when it comes to sharing important personal information through the Internet. And in the case of online banking, sharing of sensitive personal information might be required. And in doing so, the risk is always there that such information might be at risk of being stolen.
